Magnet program: It may be way to go when considering second high school

I read with interest last week's editorial advocating a study of the propriety of returning to a two high school system, as proposed by Dr. Gary Jennings and members of the Henderson Leadership Initiative, in order to raise test scores. I agree fully that the school board should investigate remedies for improving overall student performance, but simply comparing our district to others in western Kentucky is short-sighted.

The board should study ways to improve the educational offerings to the best and brightest Henderson youngsters, similar to the board's efforts to educate students at Central Learning Center and the Henderson Academy. A restricted-admission magnet school might be just the answer.
